Why the ‘Journey through the Storm’ project?

So… here’s the thing about grief. It never really goes away.

Over time you get better at managing it, of not entering that dark place. The place that makes you sob uncontrollably, that makes you feel like you can’t breathe or think properly. The place where you stop dreaming and get fooled into thinking that there is only darkness.

At one point after becoming a widow with young chidren I wanted the darkness to swallow me. I wanted to disappear. I was literally living my worst nightmare.

There were a lot of emotions to deal with in the aftermath

Loneliness, grief, depression, anxiety, exhaustion. At first I tried to supress the emotions, just "get on with it," but there's only so long that you can keep putting this off.

So... I started to deal with the many emotions that grief brings. I consulted professionals. I read and listened to books and blogs and podcasts.

I found ways to help me to process the grief of losing my husband, the life I had and the future I wanted - the Journey through the Storm project was born.

Over time, you get better at knowing what works to soothe you, to help you control the grief, to heal you. But it can still smash you from time to time… like a rogue wave. It might be hearing a song you used to dance together to. It might be meeting someone from a place where you traveled together. Or going to a place you used to make memories. It might be a birthday or an anniversary. It’s meeting new people and knowing they’ll never know them.

Here’s the thing… Every single one of us is going to experience grief at some point in our lives. Grief is the price of love.

Everyone experiences and handles grief, anxiety and stress differently. Different strategies work for different people at different times. Circuit Breaker is one of those strategies.

Journey through the Storm aims to inform, educate and empower - to be a positive force in the lives of anyone who is experiencing or has experienced stress, grief, depression, anxiety, PTSD as a result of the changes and challenges that life has thrown their way.
